Surprise when arriving in Rio : it's cold… It seems we've chosen the coldest week of the year, which will cause us some problems in the comings days as our clothes are not adapted !

As soon as we've dropped our luggage in the hostel (where we get a luxurious breakfast), we go and enjoy the little sun we have, walking along the famous Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, which is time consuming due to their lengh !

As we are in a very good shape after a night in the plane, we continue climbing the two brothers top (530m) from where the view over the city is gorgeous, even if a bit foggy. Our first glimpse at the brazilian food is both tasty and not healthy, with a lot of fried buns very fat and salty, and sweet puddings… and the portions are huge !

The next days, thankfully sunny, are busy visiting Rio's must sees.

To visit the sugar loaf, as we can't do like other people, we decide to walk instead of using the cable car… a very good idea that will put us in an uncomfortable situation on a difficult part, where a rope would be needed ! After all the effort, we are rewarded by the sunset over the city (and man can even buy Havaianas flippers there).

No more adventure the next day, we use train to go the to Corcovado, Christ the redeemer and its incredible view over the world most beautiful bay. The last day, we go to the beach, even if it's too cold to swim, followed by a walk in the favela where our great guesthouse is. It's « pacified » by friendly teenagers armed with automatic guns – they sometimes shoot at the transformer, leaving the neighborhood without electricity. We'll have our best meal there, along with a local brewed beer, looking at the Corcovado.
